The four microgrids were part of the Microgrid OIR (鈥淥IR Track 4鈥�) designed for reliability and resiliency. They provide power during islanding events to customers and critical facilities and contribute energy to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) during non-islanding events. Located adjacent to SDG&E substations on utility-owned land, the microgrids did not require major or minor use permits, though ministerial permits or consultations with governing authorities (SDG&E as the AHJ) may have been necessary. Each microgrid included up to 10MW/40MWh of energy storage from Mitsubishi, and the sites used laydown yards as their footprint.
